Powerstation Won't Record?

Featured Replies

I tried to do a recording last night on BuzzTv Powerstation 6 Unlimited and it kept failing. It couldn't see the internal storage or my WD NVME 2TB. I tried rebooting, I tried unseating the NVME no luck. The TV menu was also acting slow to go sideways. Any thoughts?

Everytime I try to go onto settings/updates etc. the whole screen goes blue and kicks out to the default Home Screen. Can't tell. I do recall doing an update in the last week or so.

Did you try removing the NVMe drive and see if the issues persist ?  Maybe try doing a recording to the onboard storage first and see if that works.

Quite possible that the nvme is toast.  Would not be the first time 🙂

it won't let me change where to record to. it freezes when I go to select storage. It isnt seeing the internal storage. I have to go back to main menu/guide. It is locking up for any recordings. Seems to be the box??

Definitely odd.

I just checked and I have internal showing and "android" which is a small 250GB NVMe I have installed in it.

And if you go to Settings->device Preferences->Storage you don't see the "Removable storage" ?

HAVE YOU UNPLUGGED the POWER for 10 seconds on the box, instead of just power off/power on ?

when I go into device preferences, it shows internal storage of 242GB. if I go to updates, the whole screen blacks out and goes back to the home screen. when I put in the NVME it doesnt see it under device prefs. Did the box fry the NVME? since the box is acting weird??

how do I reset the box?

Maybe the NVMe is just corrupt.  May need to be completely reformatted.  I have an USB NVMe adapter and I typically format my drives on my PC before installing them on media players.

I have this one:

But there are many cheaper ones available, like this one, which is under CAD$20.

Just curious, was in possibly formatted as internal "device storage" instead of "Portable storage" ?  Formatting as internal device storage can be a real pain in the b$tt.  Android should do away with that concept in 2026.  If it is formatted as internal device storage and then it gets corrupted somehow, it will corrupt the whole device.  As "Portable Storage" it runs independently of the internal storage.

Certain WD NVME require a Firmware update, because they just disappear/get deleted from the BIOS at random

This happens on Windows even

Look up a firmware update for your model, as this could be the case for you.

WD released a Firmware update for this problem about a year ago
You will need to connect it to a PC or MAC to do the Firmware update though.

So Western Digital replaced the NVME under warranty! Yeah! Do you recommend formatting it on my computer first or put it in the power station and format it that way?

I have always formatted it on a Windows PC as exFAT.  But I do believe formatting on the box would also be exFAT in the latest version of Android on buzz boxes.  But you if you format on box, make sure to format as "portable storage" not "internal storage".  Internal Storage (aka adopted storage) was a nice concept ages ago, but when it fails, it pretty much forces you to reformat the media box, instead or just losing your recordings.

Also, while you have it on the PC, check on the WD web site to see if they have (or need) any firmware updates.  It's obviously easier to do on a PC, instead of once it is installed on an android box.

I'm on a Mac, lol. can't do firmware update unfortunately. I would hope it is current since they just sent it to me from the States. lol.

Has anyone put thermal paste on their nvme in their power stations? An enclosure I bought for another nvme came with a strip and said to be it on nvme. Since the power station is similar in the sense that no air can really get to it. Just curious thoughts if it would help or not!?

No thermal paste.  For thermal paste to be of any use, you need a heatsink.  Thermal paste or pads are only meant to allow/facilitate the heat transfer from the drive to a heatsink so it can be dissipated easier.
