Zachary Smith Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Will external storage be available via smb? I have a server that I would like to connect for storage. I can do this via similar apps on other Google devices like the ONN 4K Pro Quote

Emporium Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Recording to an SMB location would definitely be a nice option. However it will come with it's own set of issues that as a developer you'd need to take into consideration. For one, you need to keep in mind that and SMB location may be used by more than one device at a time to record or even playback. So now, you would need to move the metadata for each recording to the same directory as the recording to ensure someone playing something recorded by another box, can also see the metadata (program name, description, etc..). So this is a change from the current method. There are a few different scenarios which need to be considered. Having said that, I would love to be able to use a share on one of my NAS servers as a recording destination, and then being able to playback from any of my other devices on my home network. Not a huge deal breaker for me, since I often forego recording something and just wait for the next day and catch it on the TV Series section of my service, or I just use "catchup" option after it has aired. Zachary Smith Posted August 19 Posted August 19 I have several apps installed on the device right now that allow me to record to the NAS via smb. Tivimate is one. Not sure why it would be so difficult. I also have a Formuler z11 pro max, Invidia Shield and ONN 4k Pro and those same apps all record to my NAS via SMB. Quote

Because it is a redesign of the way things are done right now on ALL buzz boxes (not just the G Series). Not impossible, it is just software after all. But not something which will suddenly appear in the next release. And the G Series would probably be even harder since it needs to go through google approval since it is released though the play store (unlike other apps which are no longer on play store - ever wonder why ? ). And your comparison of shield and Onn box is pretty much the same since it would be the same 3rd party software (which is no longer on play store) you'd be referring to. Z11 has it's own issues with MOL3, so I won't go there since this is not the forum for it As allaboutbuzz said, it is something they can look into in a future release. Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see it also, but I know it is not a simple change. Look who requested this feature nearly 2 years ago: https://buzztvhelp.com/topic/14151-buzztv6-application-wishlist-for-new-features-and-enhancements/?do=findComment&comment=37232 There is no PERFECT software. Everything has it' pros, cons and compromises. 2 Quote
