Will external storage be available via smb? I have a server that I would like to connect for storage. I can do this via similar apps on other Google devices like the ONN 4K Pro

Are you referring to the Buzz 6 app or the Google TV box itself?

Recording to an SMB location would definitely be a nice option.  However it will come with it's own set of issues that as a developer you'd need to take into consideration.  For one, you need to keep in mind that and SMB location may be used by more than one device at a time to record or even playback.  So now, you would need to move the metadata for each recording to the same directory as the recording to ensure someone playing something recorded by another box, can also see the metadata (program name, description, etc..).  So this is a change from the current method.   There are a few different scenarios which need to be considered.

Having said that, I would love to be able to use a share on one of my NAS servers as a recording destination, and then being able to playback from any of my other devices on my home network.  Not a huge deal breaker for me, since I often forego recording something and just wait for the next day and catch it on the TV Series section of my service, or I just use "catchup" option after it has aired.
