When I try and record on my SS box I set it  up to record and then shut off the TV the recorder also shuts down Why ?

Not following you. Is your tv shutting down the buzz If it is it shouldn't be a problem as the buzz should wake up and record

No box says on just recording stops it says on and record  if I sit and watch it. would there be something in my remote setting causing this ?

You probably have HDMI CEC turned on, and therefore the TV being turned off can turn the box off also.

I personally prefer to disable all CEC stuff and manually control each device separately.  But I am also probably an old fart who prefers not changing his habits
